Upcoming Illinois Concealed Carry Classes

IMPORTANT NOTE

Now that the law has been passed, we know that 16 hours of training will be required.  If you are an honorably discharged veteran, you will be credited 8 hours, leaving you needing only 8 more hours.

Although the State Police has 60 days to approve instructors and curriculum, our understanding is that they have already indicated that 1) NRA Instructors will be recognized and, 2) NRA courses like the Basic Pistol Shooting Course will count towards the first 8 hours, and 3) NRA Instructors will be approved for the second 8 hours as well.

What will this class do for you?  It will qualify you for an Arizona or Florida permit, and will probably satisfy half of the requirement for an Illinois Permit.  This class will help you immensely if you are a total beginner, or even if you are an experienced shooter. You will learn more than just safety at home, on the range, in your car and with a holster.  You will learn how to get "back to basics" to greatly increase your marksmanship, and learn the key to shoot instinctively - that is, shooting "without aiming" in a defensive situation.

Who should take this class?
  • Beginners who have never fired a gun
  • Experienced Shooters who want to get an Arizona or Florida permit or just hone their marksmanship skills and learn how to safely carry concealed and draw from a holster.

This class will qualify you for the Florida and Arizona concealed carry permit (application packets will be provided) and also is designed to get you ready with the skills, knowledge and attitude to safely carry a concealed gun. It is NOT a boring class taught by an instructor who just lectures with a powerpoint presentation.  Rather, this is an interactive class with very interesting video clips and training aids such as a laser sight and inert training pistols so the day will move by very quickly.

The class is the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course, and will have the additional shooting qualification at the end of the day of shooting, with a score of 70% being a passing grade:

  • 10 rounds at 5 yards
  • 10 rounds at 7 yards
  • 10 rounds at 10 yards

The target used is a B27 silhouette, which is man-sized.  This is the target and distances spelled out in the new concealed carry law, though you may have to repeat the shooting qualification.

For the seasoned shooter who wants to hone his (or her) skills or the total beginner, this class will help you shoot accurately and safely.

This class will qualify you for the Florida concealed carry permit (application packets will be provided) and also is designed to comply with all the regulations set forth in pending legislation in Springfield for an Illinois concealed carry permit. It is NOT a boring class taught by an instructor who just lectures with a powerpoint presentation.  Rather, this is an interactive class with very interesting video clips and training aids such as a laser sight and inert training pistols so the day will move by very quickly.
Joy improved tremendously
after the 8 hour class!

The target used is a B27 silhouette, which is man-sized.  This is the target and distances spelled out in House Bill 997, and the same as House Bill 1155. No other training / shooting requirements have passed, and we are confident that this will be what is required when the final bill passes.

Florida concealed carry permits will be recognized in Illinois, according to both of these bills, so the class will be the best way to be able to carry concealed in Illinois as soon as possible.

For the seasoned shooter who wants to hone his (or her) skills or the total beginner, this class will help you shoot accurately and safely.
